AQA GCSE History
Our GCSE History course involves the exploration of a range of exciting historical periods. We will examine the causes, key features and consequences of pivotal events and examine the role of individuals to spark change. We will critically evaluate a range of contemporary and secondary sources. This will be an inspiring and engaging course that will closely follow the AQA syllabus to ensure that key skills are practiced so students can tackle the GCSE examinations with confidence.

11+, 13+ and Key Stage 3 History
Our Key Stage 3 courses adapt to the individual child. In most cases, Year 7 and 8 students will study Medieval and Early Modern British history. We will study the causes, key features and consequences of a range of events such as the Battle of Hastings, Magna Carta, the Black Death, the Peasants' Revolt, the Wars of the Roses, the Reformation, the Elizabethan Age and English Civil War. We will study warfare, economic, political and social development across the period. Year 9 students will study the Industrial Revolution, causes, key features and consequences of the Second World War, the Treaty of Versailles, the rise of fascism in Germany and the causes of World War Two. An exciting array of activities using contemporary and secondary sources will ensure the children are engaged and enthused by their studies in readiness for Key Stage 4.
CE and Scholarship courses will do the above but with very close attention to the demands of the ISEB and public school examinations. Scholarship students study the themes of revolution, war and individuals over 500 years, going beyond the confines of the curriculum and analysing significant global events. Greater rigour and stretch will be applied in line with the student's goals and ability.

A Level Ancient History (OCR)
Our A Level Ancient History course involves the exploration of a range of exciting ancient societies. We will examine the causes, key features and consequences of pivotal events in Greece and Rome and examine the role of individuals to spark change. We will critically evaluate a range of contemporary and secondary sources. This will be an inspiring and engaging course that will closely follow the AQA syllabus to ensure that key skills are practiced so students can tackle the A Level examinations with confidence.
Greek period study: Relations between Greek states and between Greek and non-Greek states, 492–404 BC
Greek depth study: One from:
• The Politics and Society of Sparta, 478–404 BC
• The Politics and Culture of Athens, c.460–399 BC
• The Rise of Macedon, 359–323 BC
Roman period study: The Julio-Claudian Emperors, 31 BC–AD 68
There is a compulsory period study focusing on the reigns of Augustus, Tiberius, Gaius, Claudius and Nero
Roman depth study: One from:
• The Breakdown of the Late Republic, 88–31 BC
• The Flavians, AD 68–96
• Ruling Roman Britain, AD 43–c.128

Classical Civilisations Courses
Our Classical Civilisations Courses provide insight into the cultures and achievements of ancient Greece and Rome, covering topics from literature to philosophy and art. Aimed at Key Stage Three and GCSE students, these courses enhance critical evaluation and cultural understanding.
GCSE Classical Civilisations (OCR)
Thematic Study: Learners must study one component in this component group, chosen from:
• Myth and Religion (J199/11)
• Women in the Ancient World (J199/12)
Both of these components involve a comparative study of ancient Greece and Rome, and combine literary and visual/ material sources.
Literature and Culture: Learners must study one component in this component group, chosen from:
• The Homeric World (J199/21)
• Roman City Life (J199/22)
• War and Warfare (J199/23)
All of these components contain two elements; one in-depth cultural study and one study of related literature.
